about

a sadly true story about someone we were close to.

lyrics

Donna Lee

I was sad to hear the news but I can’t say surprised
Might have even had some tears but they didn’t reach my eyes
She always loved the ascent and being in the sky
She only knew one way to land but she always loved to fly

They forever tried to take her wings cause she preferred flyin blind
Destroy the instruments leave the black box behind
No contact with the tower no plan ever filed
She only knew one way to land but she always loved to fly

You could say in her defense the passengers usually survived
But everywhere on the ground were her potential crash sites
She’d just lay there where she fell til the rescue squads rushed in
But it never took that long til she was on the runway again
I guess there at the end she thought to give it one last try
She never learned how to land but she always loved to fly

Up where the atmosphere is thin and the sun always shines
Maybe you don’t really need to land once you really learn to fly
She couldn’t land worth a damn but she always loved to fly
